AMA Guides 5th Edition With a California Twist

AMA Guides Training, California QME, QME Continuing Ed, QME Cont ed, QME Continuing education, QME E

Overview:

This is the only course of its kind that teaches application of the 5th Guides while also reviewing the applicable case law.

QMEs frequently don’t know the most common (and easiest) ways to rate injuries.  All of the parties expect QMEs to know this information, yet it is commonly missed.  This course will teach you the application of the Guides in addition to learning appropriate testing to get accurate Impairment ratings.

Bring your 5th Edition Guides.  Handouts will be given.

Topics Covered:

  1. Using the appropriate devices when obtaining measurements AND shortcuts
  2. When is the grip appropriate?
  3. Examination shortcuts-know what information is needed before you begin the evaluation
  4. How to read the various tables for UE, LE, Spine
  5. Spine-DRE v ROM
  6. Converting UE/LE into WP shortcuts
  7.  Rating by analogy-methodology and application
  8. Almaraz Guzman analysis
  9. KITE analysis (When done properly, adding IR v CVC)

Examples:

  • When rating CTS, if there is a positive EMG, it is an automatic 5% prior to other calculations
  • Carpal instability (frequently missed)
  • Tenosynovitis
  • LE degenerative disease
  • Gait
  • Analogize spine to a hernia (loss of lifting capacity)
